Three weeks late, but a Happy New Year to you all! Hope that 2018 brings only good things for you and your families.
I waited until today to write this because I didn’t want to risk letting the Cat out of the Bag regarding Tony Fox’s birthday bash. Well, it all went off without a hitch yesterday afternoon and Tony was taken by surprise. Thanks to all of you who were able to attend, and thanks also to the many others who contributed to the GoFundMe site for his birthday present. Looks like Tony will be going for a ride in a Lancaster bomber this year!
Some sad news to start with. It is with regret that we announce the death of Club Member Wolf Kaufman. A letter of condolences has been sent to his brother, Ron Stein (also a member), on behalf of the Club and the Executive.
The Club A.G.M. has been arranged for Sunday 15 April 2018, at Ned Devine’s Irish Pub in Milton ON, starting at 12.00noon. The address is: 575 Ontario St South, Milton, ON L9T 2N2 and the website is www.neddevines.ca. Thanks to Martin Wood of the South Central Chapter for arranging the room for us. A meeting of the Executive will be held immediately before the A.G.M. Under the terms of our By-Laws, all positions on the Executive must come up for re-election each year. As you know, Doug Black has announced that he will not be seeking re-election for another term, however, we are fortunate to have (I think) found a suitable replacement for him. All other members have indicated that they will be standing for re-election, and votes will be held at the A.G.M. Of course, if you would like to stand for election for any position, or to nominate someone else, you may do so at the A.G.M. or by letting me know in advance.
I would also like to announce that Alan Weller, Chapter Co-ordinator for the Eastenders, is the Club’s recipient of the Order Of British Car Enthusiasts Award for 2017 by the British Car Council of Canada. Each Club gets to nominate one of its members for this award, and Alan has had a really long relationship with the Club, as did his father. Alan and his family support the club in many ways, including having a display at Brits on the Lake, garage tours for the Eastenders and having a steady hand organizing the monthly meetings at the Cat & Fiddle. Congratulations Alan!
The first ‘Gathering of the Cars’ will take place a week after the A.G.M. at Ancaster ON, on Sunday 22 April (www.ancasterbritish.ca) with the Annual British Car Flea Market. Let’s hope the weather is as brilliant as it was last year when several of our American members were able to bring their cars from Michigan and New York.
Please check the Club website for regular monthly meetings of the local Chapters.
Get ’em ready!
